Blue Cheer: Highlights And Lowlives (Nielbung); Blitzkrieg Over Nuremburg (Thunderbolt)
Edwin Pouncey, Vox, January 1991
BLUE CHEER were once championed as being the loudest band in the world. By today's standards of mega-volume Blue Cheer may sound pretty tame, but in the flower powered late '60s Blue Cheer must have sounded like the makings of one big mean and greasy bad biker trip. Their version of 'Summertime Blues' was blasted out freeform long before The Who let theirs loose on Live At Leeds and the band's Vincebus Eruptum album has since been hailed as a 'noise' classic by a whole new hairy generation.
