READING THROUGH the list of artists that producer/arranger Arif Mardin has worked with is like looking at a chapter of history from American pop music. Consider a few names from his weighty resume: Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, The Rascals, Laura Nyro, John Prine, Roberta Flack, Hall & Oates, The Bee Gees, Willie Nelson, Chaka Khan, Phil Collins and Bette Midler. Never was the expression "and the list goes on" more appropriate than in Mardin's case.
