Arthur Lee and Love: Arthur Lee and Love
David Cavanagh, Q, July 1992
IT'S BEEN quite a year for the cult heroes. 1992 has already seen re-issued albums by Alex Chilton's long-deceased Big Star and Scott Walker tussling with the latest LPs by Ride and The Jesus And Mary Chain for column inches. Now, scarcely believably, comes Arthur Lee (aged 47) with his first album in 10 years. Not only that – he has re-formed Love, the ever-shifting group of LA beatniks whose Da Capo and Forever Changes albums (both from 1967) remain timeless triumphs of gorgeous, acid-baked melodies, lush arrangements and gobsmacking lyrics.
