Beth Orton: Heartbreaker
Geoffrey Himes, Harp, Summer 2002
TO APPRECIATE how special Beth Orton is, it helps to catch her at a show like the one she did at the 1999 South by Southwest Music Conference. Hailed as the human face of British electronica, she surprised everyone by climbing up on a barstool and sharing the stage with no one but her fellow acoustic guitarist Ted Barnes. There wasn't a sampler or drum machine in sight.
