Big Girl in Town

uncredited writer, Newsweek, 20 May 1963

WHEN JUDY HENSKE sings the blues, the welcome mat comes out – literally. She is a great big girl, 6 feet tall, with a great big contralto voice to match, and in full cry she stomps her right foot, hard. To keep her spike heels from splintering the stage, the management at New York’s Village Gate last week put two welcome mats underfoot, plus a small throw rug.
