Big Star: In Space
Terry Staunton, Record Collector, October 2005
WITNESSES TO BIG STAR'S comeback shows in 1993 would often find themselves shoulder-to-shoulder with sundry teary-eyed power poppers whose own bands owed a huge debt to Alex Chilton's relatively short-lived '70s outfit. A typical audience might include components of REM, the Replacements, the Smithereens, Teenage Fanclub, Gigolo Aunts or the Long Ryders, mesmerized by their masters, like rock 'n' roll ETs being called back to the mothership.
