...So says Alex Chilton, inspirational genius behind Seventies legends BIG STAR, whose brief but influential career embraced three classic albums and more drugs, booze and sex than is advisable for a sane and healthy life. For sure, it nearly killed Chilton, who by the band's final days was a burned-out wreck. The amazing thing, however, is that he survived. Even better is the news that he's reformed Big Star with original drummer Jody Stephens and will be playing the Maker Tent at this year's Reading. PAUL LESTER reports.
