Billie Davis: Woman In Pop
Simon Frith, Let It Rock, September 1973
WHEN I WAS a teenager I even had problems in my sexual fantasies. I veered from Brigitte Bardot (too dirty) to Hayley Mills (too clean) and back again. More sadly, I got no help from pop music whatsoever. I just couldn't get off on Connie Francis or Helen Shapiro, on Cilla Black or Sandie Shaw. In fact, the only pop girl who ever excited me was Billie Davis.
