Billy Idol: Whiplash Smile

Lucy O'Brien, New Musical Express, 25 October 1986

THIS IS an ode to peroxide. Bottle Blonde spikes and matted hair. Gel by the ton. A sneer, a whiplash smile, a surly pout. The eternal teenage pose circa Kings Road punk '77, fossilised in time, breathing under glass, pickled on MTV. Although the spikes are so passe, darling. Bill still retains that beacon...the power of Permanent Dye.
