Bob Dylan: Dylan

Michael Gray, Let It Rock, April 1974

ME, I LIKE IT. I don't accept the much-aired view that if it had been up to Dylan, he would never have issued an album of this calibre – which, at base, is what Robin Denselow meant when he dramatically declared it "the most embarrassing piece of plastic ever issued in the name of a great artist." (In any case, he can't have heard the Holly In The Hills LP or half of the Jimi Hendrix catalogue.) On the contrary, Dylan has issued a similar-standard album in the past: Self Portrait, of which it seems fair enough to regard this as a third volume.
