WHAT AFFECTS you in your early teens goes very deep. By the time that you're 18, identity construction is already advanced, but at 11 you're still tinkering around with the foundations. By April 1965 I was already saturated in the electric drama of British Beat as it unfolded every week on radio and TV, but, without warning, there was a new visitation.
