Bobby Keys: Sax Sideman Extraordinaire
Tarquin Campbell, Rock's Backpages, May 2010
LYON, FRANCE. It's the morning after another night of revelry on the Rolling Stones tour of Europe in 1982. The band and entourage convene in the hotel lobby, and it's time to leave for the airport. But there is a problem: a vital cog in the well-oiled machine that is the Stones on tour is missing. Keith Richards, unaccustomed to waiting for fellow band members, snarls that he'll find the absent musician, and so he swiftly does, destroying a locked hotel room door and bathroom door in the process.
