BY THE END of recording Station To Station in Los Angeles in 1975, David Bowie was in meltdown. Strung-out, paranoid and at war with his management and the world, he was relieved of his duties recording the soundtrack for The Man Who Fell To Earth when it became clear he was in no state to fulfil them.
