David Byrne: First Degree Byrne
Max Bell, Face, The, June 1983
FOR SOMEONE WITH such an aversion to limelight, fame and wild applause, David Byrne certainly puts himself about a bit. Ever since he formed Talking Heads, still the doyens of the New York new wave scene, Byrne has given himself a full rein. Moreover, from the fresh faced, zany rhythms of 77 and More Songs, to the experimental discovery of Africa, and later collaborations with Brian Eno and Twyla Tharpe, Byrne's output has always been afforded close attention.
