David Sylvian: Gone To Earth
Dele Fadele, NME, 6 September 1986
THE THIRD person entered store after store, priced nothing, spoke no word, and looked at all objects with a wild and vacant stare – having been through it all s/he was now an 'it'. The wounds of its solitude, its abhorrence of the violence inherent in our everyday interactions, its sadness, needed healing. This it found within Gone To Earth – fragile 'soul', cerebral fuel secure in the knowledge that literature is but a system of signs to be pirated at will.
