David Thomas: Monster Walks The Winter Lake
Sean O'Hagan, NME, 26 April 1986
DAVID THOMAS sees things differently. He sings things differently too. Sometimes he sees/sings things like a child, other times like a Martian. Often he'll submerge himself in amphibian imagery, deep sea diving for pearls of nonsensical wisdom or losing the listener in aquamarine underwater logic. His is an art of chameleon camouflage and often, what initially looks like Sesame Street credibility turns out to be cunning zen wisdom.
