BACK IN the heady days of late '78, when the UK was brimming over with Devo-tees, Gerald V Casale, lead Devo, suggested that certain elitist rock hacks could only deal with something as new and as different as the Devo phenomenon while they (the hacks) remained in control of it; if it developed independence and displayed the power to manipulate rather than be manipulated, it should be rejected.
