Dick Gaughan: Handful Of Earth
Mark Cooper, Q, March 1990
FIRST RELEASED BACK in 1981, Handful Of Earth survived the '80s so well that it was voted Album Of The Decade in Folk Roots magazine's recent poll. Even on its initial release, this mixture of traditional ballads and contemporary songs offered a textbook demonstration of how folk-based material could be given a burning contemporary relevance in the hands of the right interpreter.
