IF THERE really is the third British Invasion the Californians keep talking about, platinum-sellers Dire Straits, welcomed to L.A. by bunting across the Sunset Strip and gushing album reviews, not to mention long long queues for quickly sold out shows, are just about the most unlikely mercenaries you could imagine. Even if this lot do make being unfashionable fashionable.
