Donna Summer, 1948-2012
Daryl Easlea, Record Collector, June 2012
WHEN DONNA SUMMER relocated from the US to Germany to star in the Munich production of Hair, she unwittingly set a course that would result a run of world-wide hit singles and the creation of one of the most influential records of all time. In 1974, she encountered producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte; they began working together on ornate, largely synthesized pop-dance confections, including Belgian No.1 'The Hostage', a downbeat piece of in-era kidnapping based hokum.
