Dr. John: Funky Business

FUNK IS one of those words, like cool or hip, that is difficult to define. In music, it's an amorphous thing, an attitude, a looseness, an ability to play behind, on top of and on all sides of the beat, to monkey with the melody and have fun with the lyrics. Funk is also a subjective thing. One man's funky might be another man's square.
