Earth Wind & Fire: Royal Albert Hall, London
Paul Lester, Uncut, September 1997
NO ONE levitates tonight. Nor are there any Sphinxes. And the sequinned Egyptological-spaceman costumes are conspicuous by their absence. But we do get 12 instrumentalists smothered in gold, three percussionists, a trombonist, a saxophonist, a trumpeter, some cowbells, the dreaded syn-drum (remember Anita Ward's 'Ring My Bell'?) and a couple of dancing girls who change outfits more often than Earth Wind & Fire switch tempo.
