Elvis Presley: Live In Las Vegas
Mark Paytress, MOJO, August 2001
ELVIS PRESLEY wasn't always the Clown Prince of Las Vegas. Back in 1956, he secured a two-week booking at the Venus Room in the city's Frontier Hotel. One week into the engagement, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement. A reviewer likened his appearance there to a "jug of corn liquor at a champagne party". Elvis was similarly unimpressed, claiming, "I don't want no more nightclubs."
