Faithless: Re-Perspective

AS THIS COLLECTION of reworked tracks from last year's Outrospective album makes all too clear, Faithless don't wear remixes well. So reliant are their songs on Rollo Armstrong's brooding drama and Maxi Jazz's poetic murmurings, that tampering invariably spells anodyne disaster. With that in mind, the two versions of 'We Come' were particularly misjudged. In the hands of UK garage guru Wookie, the dark euphoria's reduced to twee clatter, while Dave Clarke batters away the personality with his generic hi-hat and bass drum workout. Similarly, post disco-house makeover, 'Liontamer' could be by just about anyone. And while P-Nut's languid break-beat take on 'Giving Myself Away' heads a handful of successes, the majority of Re-Perspective is unlikely to impress, least of all Faithless fans.
