Family Planning
Mark Williams, International Times, 4 July 1969
THE FAMILY used to scare me a bit. Onstage they seemed to perform with a mixture of super coolness, a nonchalance that sometimes gave me the impression that they didn't care too much about their audience and an almost fearsome tense excitement. Singer Rog Chapman throwing his hands around like a windmill on speed, Jim King standing very, very still and looking evil in between sax breaks and Ric Grech with a fag in the side of his mouth, playing a casual but excellent bit of bass guitar. Really they're just calm, nice people, playing a music that affects them in different ways and they don't worry how.
