Garth Hudson on Levon Helm

"THE FIRST TIME I saw Levon in action was in Woodstock, Ontario, about thirty-five miles from London, where I grew up. Ronnie and the Hawks were playing in a Legion Hall. We were impressed, all of us young rockers. They were good-looking fellas and moved well; they had the girls looking at 'em all the time. I remember our manager saying that no one could follow the Hawks.
