TO DEMONSTRATE to any potential unbelievers the importance of Hank B. Marvin, we must go back to 1977, when a TV commercial was screened showing a youth in his bedroom listening to a new album. After a cautious look around, he picked up a cricket bat and pretended to mime to the playing of the guitarist. The LP was 20 Golden Greats by the Shadows, the guitarist being impersonated was Hank Marvin, and the album was the second biggest-selling LP of the year in Britain. Not bad for a group assumed to have been defunct by a large proportion of the British record-buying public...
