This interview with Patti Smith took place last October when she stopped off in London for a day en route for Europe. We were saving it to coincide with her recent British visit. Trouble is, the mag's late (as usual) and she's been and gone – that's the trouble with being a monthly. So we ain't gonna give you an account of the tour, 'cos you've probably read about it already in the fun-loving music papers. Just this interview, which sees Patti in high spirits – her October European jaunt was a sort of trial run to see if she'd be fit to do the tour she's just done, and it was working out okay. S'not dated – she talks about her fall, her new book and talks at length about some scary experiences she's had with her dead heroes Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix (shudder). Read on ...
