Ian McCulloch

AN HOUR BEFORE Echo and the Bunnymen went onstage in Osaka, Japan for the final date of a world tour in April 1988, singer Ian McCulloch was told his father had suffered a heart attack. He flew home to Liverpool immediately after the show, only to learn that his dad had just died. For McCulloch, so had the group. "I was determined he didn't die on that day for nothing." It was a sign to begin the new career he'd been contemplating. Last fall saw the release of McCulloch's first solo album, Candleland.
