ONE NIGHT IN the summer of 1996 I went to a rave in an unfashionable district of Prague. It was in a community hall on a housing estate, and the bill was a mixed bag: some locals, a Berlin Trance DJ from the MFS stable, a Vienna-based English DJ in the Techno traveller mould, and House legend Marshall Jefferson. Except Jefferson never showed up.
