John Peel: Two Decades On
Dave Rimmer, Q, December 1986
JOHN PEEL IS sitting in his pyjamas in the kitchen of his Suffolk home. It is a Sunday afternoon. On the wall is a Radio 1 calendar packed with scribbled entries like "karate disco" and "Brownie football do". His picture thereupon has been defaced with the words: "Who's he?? A star!!" His four children - William Robert Anfield, 10; Alexandra Mary Anfield, 8; Thomas James Dalglish, 6; and Florence Victoria Shankly, 4 - are running about on BMX bikes, dismantling Masters Of The Universe and making pies in the sandpit. His wife Sheila - "The Pig" - is making coffee.
