Johnny Guitar Watson: Town & Country Club, London

Mark Sinker, New Musical Express, 27 June 1987

THINK OF Peter Green, trapped in his chosen career archetype, degenerating from world-famous pop-star blues-man to dirty old tramp terrorising Richmond. The bluesman-as-outlaw-loner takes its toll, if you have to live it. But Watson, stuck in front of a lazy, sleazy, over-ripe and moderately magnificent 70s rock-soul group (who appear to call themselves the Taxis Of Love, implausibly), has always been enough of a one-man P-funk clown to avoid trapping himself.
