Junior Walker 1931-1995
Geoffrey Himes, Rolling Stone, 25 January 1996
IN EARLY 1965, a new single lit up American radio. It began with a gunshot, echoed by the snare drum that followed. Then a tenor saxophone took over, blowing a catchy, syncopated figure and topping it off with a long, throaty squeal. Finally a man cried out, "I said, 'Shotgun!'" It was Junior Walker and the All Stars, and they took 'Shotgun' to No. 1 on the R&B charts and to No. 4 on the pop charts.
