David Bennun, Melody Maker, 1996

WE'D GOT the television up onto the windowsill, Taylor and I, with every intention of throwing it out, because just once, at least, you have to. We were hampered only by the aeriel lead's refusal to unplug itself, by our own helpless laughter, and by the fact that Kenickie were hitting us with pillows, shoes, cans, chocolate wrappers, threats, insults and anything else non-life-threatening that came to hand.

Total word count of piece: 2925
