Led Zeppelin: In Through The Out Door (Swan Song)
Chris Bohn, Melody Maker, 11 August 1979
THE GRAND illusion was popped way back when I was taking my O-levels. Then Led Zeppelin 2 fulfilled the noble function of releasing all the tension built up during a particularly fraught period by battering it against the awesome noise they created. Once the four weeks were over, only a worn-out husk of a record remained, its severe limitations and compromises revealed through intense, repeated exposure, leaving a hollow framework upon which their empty bravado was hung.
