Leon Russell: Signature Songs

Sylvie Simmons, MOJO, June 2002

UNPLUGGED IS one of Leon Russell's "least favourite terms in modern music". But unplugged, more or less, is what this is – recorded at the piano, for the most part alone, revisiting 11 of his best-known songs. Reclaiming them to some degree too, since most were far bigger hits for other artists (George Benson on 'This Masquerade'; Joe Cocker, 'Delta Lady'; Ray Charles, 'A Song For You') than for their author.
