THIS PAST AUGUST, a friend and I braved the colorless bullshit of the Troubador in Los Angeles to catch a Linda Ronstadt set, supposedly being recorded by Capitol for purposes of a live album. My friend could by no means be classified a Linda Ronstadt fanatic (or certainly not to the extent I am; I went back twice), yet he remained stationary through the entire set, his attention fixed on the power of the music and the presence of the singer.
