SINGER/SONGWRITERS are thirteen to the dozen this year. Of the newcomers of the last eighteen months only a couple have managed completely successful albums, like Jesse Winchester or Jim Croce, while the firmly established cats like James Taylor have churned out below standard, flawed exercises in self indulgence. The basic problem with both British and American artists in this genre is a an overpowering intensity and a shocking lack of humour.
