Mary Wells: Dear Lover - The Atco Sessions
David Nathan, revised, for Ichiban Soul Classics, Fall 1994
Mary Wells: The Soul Queen Who Quit Motown.
Considered, for good reason, one of the top black female vocalists of the early to mid-'60s, the late Mary Wells' initial recordings for Motown Records have always been regarded as among the finest work she did during her twenty-plus-years as a recording artist. Thanks to modern technology, much of that work has been made available again by Motown Records, most especially in a double CD (Looking Back 1961-1964) released in 1993.
