Mazzy Star: Mean Fiddler, London
Mark Cooper, MOJO, January 1994
IN THE PRIVACY OF ONE'S OWN HOME, CALIFORNIA'S MAZZY Star can sound like an American bar band performing at half-speed at the bottom of a deep well. Perhaps this influenced the utterly inappropriate choice of the Mean Fiddler for the only London date of this brief British tour, but Hope Sandoval and co. should clearly have been playing in a place twice this size and preferably one with seats and without pillars.
