McGuinn Clark and Hillman: Flight From The Past
Mark Leviton, BAM, 2 March 1979
LOS ANGELES — To examine the fates of original Byrds members Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, and Chris Hillman as they form a new act for 1979 is to admit a fondness for musicians who have been off the Top 20 for longer than anyone cares to mention. A sense of nostalgia doesn't even enter into it, because for me The Byrds have never stopped, since their albums are on my turntable a lot more than whatever transient crowd is mauling the charts and stacking up platinum discs at the moment. But listening to McGuinn, Cark & Hillman (as the new group is simply called) is not like listening to The Byrds. At least for the men who make the music, those days are over.
