THERE ARE ROUGHLY two kinds of pop musician: two-bit hacks who try to squeeze everything they can out of hokey harmonies and three threadbare chords (G,D and A, usually), and the craftsmen who appreciate the fact that truly great pop is a sweet science, not a clearing house for mediocrity.
