Nightstick: Geoff Muldaur

Kirk Silsbee, New Times Los Angeles, 4 February 1999

AN UNSUNG GIFT from a bygone era, the Jim Kweskin Jug Band had many things to recommend it: Kweskin's anachronistic, roughhouse vocals; Mel Lyman's stirring, Appalachian-style harmonica; Maria Muldaur's emerging sassy singing; an eclectic songbook that stretched from the Memphis Jug Band to Chuck Berry to Leiber & Stoller. (No wonder the band was a fish-out-of-water during the folk revival of the early to mid 1960s.)
