STANDING OVER A pool table in A&M Records' New York offices, lining up a shot and then pausing to draw on a cigarette, Nils Lofgren doesn't look the part of America's rock 'n roll hero. Though critics and musicians have called him the best native guitarist to emerge from our rock 'n roll stew, Lofgren is almost blissfully unaware.
