Norah Jones: The Fall
Phil Sutcliffe, MOJO, December 2009
THE FALL IS A PRETTY comprehensive break-up album. Norah Jones has broken up with Lee Alexander, for eight years her boyfriend and double-bassist and, on Not Too Late (2007), her producer and co-writer. Coincidentally or not, at about the same time she broke up with the rest of her Handsome Band, the Greenwich Village musos who'd moulded themselves into the most devotedly empathetic back-up combo a murmurous-singing, subtly ivory-caressing gal could wish for. She didn't sack them because they were crap, so it must mean her whole life was in move-on mode.
