Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
David Toop, MOJO, October 1997
"MUSIC IS THE HEALING FORCE OF the universe," So said saxophonist Albert Ayler, whose body was found floating in New Yorks East River many years ago. Jeff Buckley also had something to say about healing. He described Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Pakistans greatest singer, as "the man whose voice healed the fuck out of me." Jeff is dead now, another musician found drowned in a river. After a heart attack in August, in the week in which India and Pakistan celebrated 50 years of independence, Nusrat is dead too.
