FIRST OF ALL there was that punky Canadian kid with the big voice and the tremor that even got to me ("Put your head on my shouuuulder..."). He was neatly knifed in that documentary film, Lonely Boy, which revealed his manager as loony ("God gave us Paul, like he gave us Michelangelo and Moses") and Paul himself as a podgy teenage idol, nothing to do with rock'n'roll and doomed to die as his girls hit eighteen.
