PJ Harvey: Live in London
Chris Roberts, Uncut, April 2001
THE LAST rock star, dripping with dark poetry, mystery and unforced glamour, stands alone onstage in spectacular red dress and electric guitar, crying, "Lick my legs, I'm on fire." It's the foxy, flame-licked moment every movie about music tried to magic up; it's something which perhaps only exists in memory nowadays. Yet it's there in front of us, a feral miracle. And it's the first song. Then on, it's thrilling, cool perfection. "I can't believe life's so complex / When I just wanna sit here and watch you undress." This is how it should be. 'This Is Love'? And then some.
