THE EXPLOSIVE SUCCESS of Steeleye Span during the past year is in direct relationship to the in-herent malleability of its music. Fresh out of the folk clubs in 1969, the band originally attracted quite an "intellectual" audience with its pure offerings of traditional English folk music. But with Steeleye’s first tour of the States (with Procol Harum) their audience widened considerably to include a much younger (and older) clientele.
