With the curtain closed on the Sex Pistols pantomime, in 1978 a still-searing John Lydon teamed up with Jah Wobble and Keith Levene to form PiL. A year later the band released Metal Box, tearing up the rulebook and turning musical convention inside out to produce one of the most influential records ever made. A gibbering Kris Needs was there.
